Soke Steve Kovacs is the son of Grandmaster Frank Kovacs and is now the Soke (leader—Grandmaster) of Minna Jiu Jitsu. At eight, Steve was almost killed by a criminal and was literally saved at the last minute. Shortly thereafter, he started studying Judo and did so until the age of 12. Next up for Steve was getting involved in the style his father invented, Minna Jiu-Jitsu. In addition, throughout the years, Steve trained in boxing, Shōrin-ryū Karate, and Stand-Up Mixed Martial Arts. He was known for his explosive moves and fast hands, and is well-versed in what it means to use those techniques in real-life situations. Steve was a police officer and supervisor for over 20 years and was SWAT-trained by the FBI, FBI Hostage Rescue Team and the LAPD. He also received an award from the J. Edgar Hoover Foundation for: Fidelity, Bravery and Integrity.

Presently, Steve supervises all instructors and privately coaches select students. His commitment to self-defense extends beyond the dojo. He's the author of
Protect Yourself: The Simple Keys Women Need to Be Safe and Secure  and the Amazon Kindle best seller, Protect Your Kids! The Simple Keys to Children's Safety and Survival.

For many years, Steve has presented seminars and written on the ways to react and survive mass public attacks referred to as active shooter or active attacker situations.

Steve was also a (part-time) adjunct professor of Criminal Justice for nearly a decade at Miami Jacobs Career College and was the General Manager for a National Security and Investigative company.

Sensei Daniel H. Bralliar
is the chief instructor at Mayfield Academy. He holds a 7th dan black belt in Minna Jiu Jitsu, and is the second-generation to practice the style under the training and guidance of Grandmaster Frank Kovacs, in addition to holding black belts in Kempo and Shotokan Karate. A long-time tournament competitor throughout the USA and Canada, he is known for his excellence in sparring, self-defense and weapons. His forty years' experience in martial arts are a great asset to the dojo.

Since his retirement from active tournament competition he has concentrated more fully on his work as an instructor. He finds a great deal of joy in being able to instruct the younger generations, including his own son, who is now the third generation of his family involved with Mayfield Academy.
